Educating Rita
May 22 – June 23, 2014
A Play by Willy Russell
Directed by Robert MacKenzie
Produced by David Hunt Stafford
This is EDUCATING RITA:
Boozy and burned-out university professor Frank needs to earn some extra cash to support his expensive alcohol habit, so he agrees to tutor Rita, a brash, free-spirited young hairdresser trying desperately to better herself. The result is British playwright Willy Russell’s delightful Pygmalion-style comedy in which Frank ends up playing Henry Higgins to Rita’s modern-day Eliza Doolittle. Each has a profound effect on the other, opening up new possibilities for each other’s lives. Enjoy a touching and comical evening of theater that explores the transformational nature of education — which can often come from the most unlikely of teachers.
